Alhuda Theme for 2014-2015 Academic Year

{O you, who have believed, let not a people ridicule [another] people; perhaps they may be better than them; nor let women ridicule [other] women; perhaps they may be better than them. And do not insult one another and do not call each other by [offensive] nicknames. Wretched is the name of disobedience after [one’s] faith. And whoever does not repent – then it is those who are the wrongdoers.} 49:11

Kind Reminders:

  • Eat Breakfast:

Breakfast is a crucial part of every child’s day. It affects everything from memory to creativity in the classroom and has been extensively linked to better academic performance. Children who go to school hungry are more inclined to become distracted from learning at school… A healthy, well-rounded breakfast is best for a child’s maximum performance level.  For more information, please see article here:

  • Pack a Snack:

Also be reminded that Alhuda Academy has a daily snack time during the mid-morning, throughout the school. It is important that your child(ren) bring their snack to school every day and that we recommend healthy items such as sliced fruit, granola bars (no nuts), cheese sticks, yogurt, home baked items and so on.  Students who do not bring snack to school are sent to the office to purchase a snack from school Bake Sale reserves.

  • Bring Lunch:

It is also vital that children bring lunch every day and that, if lunch is forgotten at home, parents make every effort to deliver lunch before 12:00 noon that same day.  Alhuda Academy has a Hot Lunch program, provided by Golden Pita restaurant and we have recently announced delicious and nutritious changes/additions to the menu.  If you have not previously considered ordering from the Hot Lunch program, why not give it a try? Students who do not have a lunch with them will be sent to the office to purchase items from Bake Sale reserves.

  • Friday Bake Sale:

Alhuda would also like to take this opportunity to remind everyone about Bake Sale Fridays.  Our school Bake Sale is an exciting moment for students to come to the office and make selections from healthy and nutritious items. We kindly remind parents to please participate when it is your child’s classroom’s turn – and to send healthy and nutritious items (no nuts) per guidelines in the weekly reminder.

After School & Weekend Dismissal Time:

Please make sure to pick up your children at 4:30 sharp from Mondays-Thursdays and 6:00 pm on Fridays and 11:00 am on Saturdays.

Sponsor The Orphans Project

Sponsor the Orphans Program is going to be the school theme for the months of January and February, inshaAllah. Please support and help provide an acceptable living for the children who have almost nothing, by simply sending a small donation daily or regularly with your child. It is a great lesson in empathy for your children. At the end of the project, all collected funds will go to Helping Hand USA to benefit two orphans that our Alhuda students will be sponsoring. Sponsor The Orphans Tree will be displayed proudly in the school hallway consisting of leaves with students’ names who have donated towards the project. All student donors will share their pictures with the sponsored orphans, insha Allah.

STOP (Students Together Opposing Prejudice) Program

Alhuda Academy middle school students have joined the S.T.O.P. Program.  It is a six-week curriculum that provides diversity training, teaches awareness and respect of people’s differences, and offers students skills to stand up against discrimination and bullying. The middle school students along with their teacher, Mrs. Nayfeh, already attended one session on January 9th alhamdulilah. There will be other sessions and we are happy to announce that Alhuda will be hosting one in February, inshaAllah.

Adventures in Space Program

Our students from KG through 8th grade will be attending an Adventures in Space Program here at Alhuda Academy on Wednesday January 29, 2014. The program presents an age appropriate illustrated, step-by-step explanation of the United States space program. It has props models, and actual space artifacts for students to see and try. This is traveling school program and will be an in-house field trip.

International Day

PreK to 8th grade students are studying different countries. They will present all about those countries from population, products, currency, percentage of Muslims, culture etc. during our International Day event. The students will be wearing their special country’s attire, and the teachers will be sending more information about the day next week, inshaAllah.

Students in each grade will receive a list of challenging spelling words that they will have to study. Each student will also receive a pledge form. The students will go to family and friends who will pledge or promise to pay a certain amount of money for each word the child spells correctly on the test. Remember, that you should pledge a comfortable amount because you do not know how many words the child will spell correctly until after the test. You should pledge before the Spell-a-thon test, but pledges will also be accepted afterwards. More information will follow inshaAllah.

Verse of The Week

{It is He Who brought you forth from the wombs of your mothers when ye knew nothing; and He gave you hearing and sight and intelligence and affections: that ye may give thanks to Allah}.16:78

Jazakum Allah Khairan..Thank You!

Quarter I Assembly was a big success alhmdulilah! We would like to thank our parents who celebrated the students’ success. Jazakum Allah khair.

At Alhuda, we are very proud of the students who made it to the Honors and High Honors lists this Quarter.  This is a truly impressive feat for two reasons:

1) Although we have not changed the criteria for achieving these lists, we are being far stricter in enforcing them this year.

2) We have also implemented the Common Core Standards.  These national curriculum standards are more challenging – requiring the students (and teachers) to work harder.  So students who were able to meet the requirements to be on either one of these lists should be very pleased with their accomplishments!  Congratulations to all our Honor students.

Student of the Quarter (SOTQ)

One student (or two depending on class size) was chosen by the homeroom teacher to receive this Quarterly Award as an incentive based on the following criteria:

  • Must have A’s & B’s in ALL of his/her classes for the Quarter.
  • Must have had no discipline referrals
  • Must not have more than SIX unexcused tardy and SIX unexcused absences during the Quarter.
  • Must comply with school uniform

We would like to congratulate the following families on the new arrival of their new additions:

–          The Taufeeque family was blessed with Mohammad Hassan Taufeeque.

–          The Tashpulatov Family was blessed with Imran Tashpulatov

–          The Badry family was blessed with Maryam Badry

May Allah make them among the righteous, bless their families and keep them in good health, Ameen!

Verse of The Week

“Verily, the number of months with Allah is twelve months (in a year), so it was ordained by Allah on the Day when He created the heavens and the earth; of them, four are sacred. That is the right religion, so wrong not yourselves therein.” [al-Tawbah 9:36]

Please do not drop your children early in the morning and leave them unattended. There will be no staff members to supervise them as the school doors will open at 7:45 AM sharp. We are heading toward colder days, hence, please plan accordingly.

Jazakum Allah khair.

So proud of our students who tried their best to fast the ninth and the tenth of Muharam following the Sunnah of Prophet Mohammad (PBUH); we are also glad that our student body is aware of the Prophet’s (PBUH) tradition, and they are trying their best to emulate him. Alhmdulilah, we dedicate the month of November to practice the Sunnah of our Prophet (PBUH) with the theme “Reviving The Sunnah.

Professional Development—Takbir! MashaAllah!

Alhuda Quran Teachers are now Nuranyah-certified (certified to teach Quran recitation with proper tajweed); they started the course in March of last year, and ended it with a full certification, mashaAllah. Our students will, inshaAllah, be trained to pronounce the Quran properly.

Our Science teachers are now members of the Museum of Science Teacher Partner Program.  This allows them to attend Science Technology Engineering and Math (STEM) workshops. They already attended one workshop on a Sunday in September.  During this workshop, they had the chance to preview the Hall of Human Life and attended different sessions that benefited them greatly.

Eight Alhuda teachers attended a whole day conference last Saturday at the University of Massachusetts thru the TEACH PLUS America along with hundreds of other teachers from across the Commonwealth.  Training involved delving into the Common Core in the classrooms. Our teachers gained information as well as an opportunity to network with other public school staff and administrators. Alhuda Academy was the only Islamic school that attended this conference alhmdulilah.

Alhuda Science Lead teacher, Mrs. Abdlkader, will be attending a 4-day workshop at Worcester Polytechnic Institute (WPI) titled Project Based STEM: Teaching & Learning.

October 7th, our teachers will be attending The Fourth Annual Educators Professional Day at Bridgewater State University.

After School Program

MashaAllah, we closed enrollment for Destination Imagination. We now have four teams and four team managers. First class will start this Friday from 3:30 to 6:00p.m. Please pack an extra snack with your child if he or she will be attending.

There are only a few openings left for Martial Arts and Technology Clubs; we are now opening these clubs to the community.  Please contact the school office to register your child.

Middle School Students & Community Service

Our middle school students had an opportunity to put their faith into action by participating in the Syria InKind Winter Drive. This is a joint effort between the Worcester Islamic Center and Helping Hand for Relief and Development.  They are preparing a container of clothing, household items, diapers, medical and school related items to send to our brothers and sisters in Syria.

Our students sorted and packed clothes on October 2 from 1:30-3:00 pm.  We are encouraging middle school students to show compassion and offer service hours to their communities, both near and far.

Dates to Remember

  • October 4th: Half Day for students. Dismissal time is at 12:00 sharp. Parents collecting their students late will have to collect them from Daycare where they will have to pay a fee.  No students will be dismissed to the Masjid unattended.

Please note that the lunch selections rotate throughout the month.  It will be hard to remember when your child is purchasing lunch and when you must pack him/her a lunch.  We advise you to place copy of this menu on your refrigerator to help you remember.  Please note that no late orders will be accepted because late orders cause confusion for the caterer.  Jazakum Allahu khairun for understanding.

Student Photo Authorization

If you have not returned your photo authorization form yet, please do so at your earliest convenience. If we do not receive your form, we will assume that you permit us to take and post your child’s picture in the school publications including facebook.

Dropoff/Pickup and Dismissal

Drop Off and Pick Up…

Please park legally in designated parking spaces when dropping off or picking up the students.  Do not park in front of the school and do not block the school buses in the mornings or in the afternoons.

It is very important that your child comes and leaves on time. Transitional time in the morning from home to school and the excitement to meet the parents in the afternoon are precious for the students. In addition, SIX tardies will negatively impact your child’s chances of being chosen for the Student of The Quarter. Please have your child sleep in an appropriate time and wake to a fresh and healthy quick breakfast inshaAllah.

Morning Drop Off: 7:45- 8:05. The student will be considered tardy at 8:06

Afternoon dismissal: 3:16-3:30. Late pick-up requires that the child be signed out from the school office. After 3:45, students will be picked up from the Daycare with extra charge.

Please remember when picking up your child from the back of the school building to follow the flow of the cars and not take the short cut. Try to drive all the way to where the teachers are standing to help you in getting your child in the car.

Traffic Policies and Student Safety

All city and state traffic laws apply in the WIC parking lot:

  •      Please observe the One Way flow of traffic whenever you are entering or exiting the school parking lot.
  •      Park ONLY in legally designated parking spots
  •      SLOW down
  •  Morning dropping off, you must drive around the building and stop at the left side of the entrance between the   school and the green building.
  •   You cannot park in the front of the school while students are being dropped off in the morning.
  •    PreK and KG students MUST be escorted by their parents
  •    Do not block the school bus or other parents’ cars
  •    Dismissal Pick Up: follow the queue of cars in the back where your child will be brought to you.
  •    Early dismissal: In order not to interfere with the school bus, you must park your car at the far side of the parking lot in front of the Green building.

Our primary concern is the safety of our students; please help us to keep them safe by observing these rules.

Jazakum Allah Khairan!
