Book Fair Update
Jan 21st, 2010 | By principal | Category: EventsHere is an update of what our teachers have been doing to excite students about reading:
* Teachers continue to collect logs/minutes for the “Chow Down Reading Contest”. Please make sure your child is using the logs properly by jotting down the correct number of minutes spent reading and initial the log. The classroom with the most reading minutes will get to preview the books on Monday, Febuary 1st and will enjoy a classroom party.
* Students are aslo participating in a bookmark design contest. The design can be done individually or with classmates. They are due next Thursday.
* Next week, teachers and students will decorate classrooms for the Book Fair. This will be another competition. The classroom with the best decoration gets a pizza lunch on Monday of Book Fair week. Classrooms will be judged Friday afternoon, January 29th.
* Please send your payment for klutz-build-a-book event. This event is for families to spend time constructing books with your children. This event will take place on Friday, February 5th. Payments are due Friday, January 22 so that we can pre-order the books on time.
Please contact Monifa Matthew, the Book Fair Chairperson, if you are interested in volunteering at the Book Fair event. Volunteer work will inlcude:
- Book Fair Set Up: Next Friday afternoon
- Cashiers: 3 hr blocks (9-12, 1-3:30 each day Feb.1-5) and also a slot from 3:30-5:30 on the last day of the fair (Feb. 5)
- Help with bringing refreshments for parent Breakfast event on Feb.3
- Help with ice cream social on last day of the fair (2-5 PM) (getting ice cream, materials and supervision)
- Help with the klutz-build-a-book event for young families: refreshments and logistical support (arts and crafts events in cafeteria after jumuah. )
- Taking down the Book Fair: Week following the fair
