October 16 Swine Flu Update
Oct 22nd, 2009 | By principal | Category: EventsIf you were unable to attend last weeks’ presentation about the action plan that Alhuda, Al-Hikmah, and WIC Masjid are taking with regards to the swine flu pandemic, here is a summary of some of what was presented:
Tier I – WHO has declared Phase 6, but not prevalent in the local area
(i.e.: still experiencing WHO Phase 5 conditions locally)
• Monitor student absenteeism. Parents should call when child is absent to inform the school of any health conditions
• Post health updates on website
• Send home any individual with 2 or more flu-like symptoms immediately to be evaluated by a pediatrician
• Sanitize work area of any student or employee sent home (door knobs, keyboard, light switches, desk tops)
• Make hand sanitizers available in every class
• Have teachers regularly disinfect common areas
• Have long term substitutes ready and school packages sent to student through mail or email
Tier II – Number of local cases escalating, many schools, educational programs, and daycare centers are closed
• In addition to Tier I response:
• Restrict access to the building
– Employees and students enter only
– No unnecessary visitors
• Require children or siblings of H1N1 infected individuals to stay home
• Advise families to monitor children’s temperatures at home if they have flu-like symptoms
• Have physician clear recovered employee / student to return to school
WIC
• Wear a mask
• Friday night dinner will be stopped
Tier III – Increased on-site absenteeism, additional educational program closings, local or regional public health alerts
• In addition to Tier II response:
• Text-message alerts to parents: Please notify us if you do not use text messaging
• Notify parents to be prepared for possible school closing
WIC
• Close the Center
